Corby triumph in cup upset
Ladies through to the next round
The ladies had a tough away draw in the cup against premier division side Kettering Town. Kettering are a quality side with experience in all areas, and they showed this in the first half controlling possession from the off, restricting Corby to a couple of counter attacks which their keeper was in fine form to deal with, however despite their control of the game they failed to create any clear cut chances and rarely tested Shana Haynes
in the Corby goal. They did however take the lead direct from a free kick which evaded everyone to somehow bounce through and in. 1-0 down at half time.
The second half would see Corby leave nothing behind, from the moment the whilstle blew to the last, they threw absolutely everything at Kettering. Kettering to their credit were similarly able to hold them at bay, restricting the Steelwomen to half chances, that was until Captain Nicole Coull
drove a long range free kick into the roof of the net. With 10 mins to go the game was all square. Kettering perhaps shocked by this tried to step up a gear but Corby weren’t done in the final min Nicole Andrejczuk
broke down the left hand side and unselfishly held the ball up laying the ball into the path of Stacey McConville
to smash Home the decider.
