Welland Valley Triumph
A Game Of Two Keepers
Corby came into the game on the back of a defeat from grammarians. Although they were determined to get back to winning ways it didn't start well for the Corby girls. Several times in the early stages of the first half Welland Valley came close to scoring, if it wasn't for the tremendous efforts of the Corby keeper Georgia Summerfield as well as the uprights Corby would have been dead and buried within the first 10 minutes, luckily they only found them self 1-0 down.
Welland had the majority of the chances in the first half and kept Corby under a lot of pressure, Corby rarely got out of their own half of the field until midway into the first half, Elise Chin broke through the Welland defence after relentlessly closing down every ball she could and calmly slotting the ball into the net to score her first goal for the club. Corby weren't done and continued to press, after a dominant spell of about 10/15
minutes Welland regained their composure and took control of the match back.
Second half Welland started quicker and scored early on. From then on Corby were chasing the game, Emily Marshall, Bethany Brown and Elise Chin often lead the chase always trying to press the Welland girls in constant attempts to win the ball back to turn the game around, sadly it often didn't come to anything as Welland continued to show their attacking dominance with chance after chance, if it wasn't for the Corby keepers brilliance the Corby girls would have had no way back into the game.
Eventually Corby's constant hard work and pressing of the ball paid off, Jess Gibbons broke through the Welland Defence and managed to toe poke the ball past the Welland number one. Once again Corby had some fire in their stomachs and it looked likely that they were going to win, Corby had a lot of possession in the Welland Half, constantly winning throw-ins and corners from their pressing game, never giving the Welland girls time on the ball. Sadly in the dying moments of the game Welland got a chance they weren't going to let slip and despite all of the work the Corby girls put in it just wasn't enough this time. Welland Valley left Corby with a very tightly battled 3-2 victory.
