The best way to keep up to date with Corby Town FC

“"Grant Ryan hooked a shot into the car park"”

The Steelmen made it two wins out of two on the newly-laid 3G surface at Quorn on Wednesday evening. Manager David Bell again picked a strong starting XI and also included Ude Osim on the right wing. The teenager is far from being the finished article but showed some nice touches and a good turn of speed so the promise is there.
Centre backs Kern Miller and Jamie Anton again provided a strong barrier in front of Jamie McAlindon, who was making his second appearance in goal.
The Corby defence was wide open in the 12th minute, however, when the home centre forward broke free and tumbled to the ground under the challenge of McAlindon. The referee had no option but to point to the spot and Nathan Dale stroked his penalty to one side of the goal with McAlindon diving to the other.
This was to be Quorn's only real chance of the first half while Corby had numerous attempts on goal - with varying degrees of accuracy.
Grant Ryan hooked a shot into the car park while the Steelmen's first effort on target was comfortably held by the goalkeeper from Lee Stevenson. A low, angled shot by Jordan Yong was then kept out with a bit more difficulty and a second attempt by Ryan only just cleared the crossbar. Sam Mulready then got in on the act with a shot which the 'keeper palmed down before gathering.
With just two minutes of the first half remaining Stevenson was impeded inside the area as he played a one-two with Ryan and the referee again awarded a penalty. Mulready took the kick and although the 'keeper guessed right he was beaten by the accuracy of the shot into the corner of the net.
Three minutes after the interval Mulready scored his third goal of pre-season as he ran clear of the last defender and clipped a shot just inside the post. Minutes later Mulready was stopped in his tracks by an offside flag as he got on the end of a through-pass by Stevenson.
Corby increased their lead in the 67th minute when Connor Kennedy, having a good game in an attacking right back role, played the ball inside to Stevenson on the edge of the penalty area and the Steelmen skipper curled a shot beyond the dive of the goalkeeper.
The Corby defence was momentarily caught sleeping in the 75th minute when Quorn played a short corner routine on the left and Jordan Lever 's powerful far post header reduced the deficit.
Three minutes later the Steelmen restored their two-goal advantage as Grant Ryan gained some reward for his all-action display at centre forward by heading in Corby's fourth from a corner.
Substitute Adam Frisch almost added a fifth late on but fired his shot wide after getting on the end of a high, floated left wing centre.
This was another useful work-out for the Steelmen and sets them up nicely for Saturday's visit of Brackley Town to Steel Park.
