Sam is a sharp, nippy little striker who has proved himself to be a clinical finisher in non-league football. He began his career with Grimsby Town and made sufficient progress to be signed on a professional contract whilst still a teenager. He made his first team debut for the Mariners in a 1-0 home defeat to Altrincham in the Blue Square Premier Division in April, 2011 and also played in the next game, a 2-1 loss away to AFC Wimbledon.
Early in the 2011/12 season Sam had a 3-game loan spell with Boston United and in November 2011 he signed for Gainsborough Trinity, also initially on loan before making the move permanent. Whilst at Gainsborough he had a prolific spell on loan to Holbeach United.
In October, 2012 he went out on loan to his home-town club, Kings Lynn, and that move was made permanent in February, 2013. Sam's Kings Lynn career was to be beset by niggling injuries but he did score 29 goals in 155 games for the Linnets before moving on to Stamford in May, 2016.
He was on the move again in October, 2016 when he signed for St Neots Town and he went on to score 6 goals in 14 appearances for them.
In January, 2017 Sam was transferred to Soham Town Rangers and after failing to find the net in his first eight games he went on a run of scoring nine goals in the final nine games of the season to help steer the Greens clear of relegation.
Soham were keen to re-engage Sam for 2017/18 but in May, 2017 the 24-year-old front-man opted to sign for the Steelmen.
