Corby through to next round of cup
Tough game sees battling Steelwomen through AET.
A tough cup tie drew the ladies against Draycott Victoria, an experienced and physical side.
The Steelwomen couldn't have wished for a better start after a 2nd minute corner from Shannon Brown
was headed home at the far post by Stacey McConville
, but this was far from a sign of things to come. Draycott are tough opposition and we're experienced enough not to let the early goal rock them, and whilst they rarely troubled corby keeper Shana Haynes
, they were astute enough to keep Corby quiet and probably had the better of the first half despite going into the break 1-0 down.
The second half saw Corby begin to take a slight foothold in the game, ironically however the only goal would be a penalty for Draycott early in the half, and whilst Corby were finding more avenues in possession in this half they were unable to find the net, Nicole Coull
coming closest when her lobbed effort came back off the inside of the post.
Extra time started with a bang, Corby worked the ball down the flank and with Laura Dodwell
creating havoc she dribbled half the pitch linked up with Nicole Andrejczuk
before rounding the keeper to score the goal of the game. The two again linked up in reverse this time, as the second period of extra time started, this time Laura Dodwell
playing in Nicole Andrejczuk
who swivelled round the keeper to slot home.
A tough but fair encounter between two good sides, however the Steelwomen would progress to the next round where an even tougher away trip to higher league opposition in Kettering Town awaits.
