We're delighted to announce @celticfc legends Alan Stubbs & Stan Varga will play against @corbytownfc in the #NonLeagueChallenge!

Two more players have today been announced for the Marathon Bet, Non League Challenge match on Sunday 30th July.

Taking their place in the Premier league legends team to take on the Steelmen will be Alan Stubbs and Stan Varga,

Stubbs made 212 appearances in the premier league for a host of clubs, most notably captaining Everton to 4th place in the 2004/05 season, the highest league position they have achieved since the beginning of the premier league. Another record that Stubbs can lay claim to is playing for the two sides with the worst points totals in premier league history. First with Sunderland in 2005/06, and then managing to beat this record with Derby County in 2007/08.

Stubbs will be mostly remembered in football terms for his 5 year spell at Celtic, winning 2 league titles in this time. It was at Celtic, during a routine drugs test, that Alan was told he has Testicular Cancer, and thanks to his fighting spirit and Receiving the finest private care, there were no NHS waiting lists to negotiate. Stubbs was diagnosed, operated on and given the all clear within a week. He was back playing for Celtic, to a rapturous reception, in no time.

Joining Alan will be another former Celtic and Sunderland Defender, Stanislav Varga.

Varga made 21 premier league appearances for Sunderland, scoring one goal, but will be remembered by most for his spell at Celtic.

Signed in 2003, Varga won 2 SPL title among a haul of 5 major honours, winning the league title and scottish cup in his first full season with the club. Successive titles evaded Celtic in the 2004–05 season as they threw away the SPL title on the final day of the season, but a week later claimed a scottish cup winners medal. 'Stan' claimed another league and cup double in his final season up north, before making the move to rejoin Sunderland, where he helped guide them to Championship success, and promotion back to the premier league.

Tickets for the match are on sale by e-mailing! There will be a £2 charge per order for p&p.

Keep an eye on for constant updates on new players signing up for this great occasion, and for ticket sales updates.
