Getting to Know @bazza1115

2 months ago By James McCafferty

47 years old and still fighting fit, lets find out more about Corbys number 1!

Next spring, veteran stopper Paul Bastock will bring down the curtain on a 30 year career in professional and semi-professional football, and he has chosen to do this at the Steelmen.

Bastock is still in shape and is looking forward to one last stand, and he is hoping that he will be going out in a blaze of glory by helping Corby to promotion.

One of the nicest men you will meet in football, Pauls experience will help improve the goalkeeping unit that is being assembled at Steel Park.
We caught up with Paul during the week to get to know him better.

Best Club you have played at and why?
Coventry City , winning the FA Youth Cup the same week as the first team won the FA Cup. Best non-league would be Boston United, winning promotion into the football league.
Best manager you have played under and why?
Colin Lippiatt, St Albans FC! Absolutely the funniest manger ever who knew how to get the best out of his players
Best Player you have played with and why?
Wow at my age there's been so many! Dion Dublin was one that went on to forge a great career. I played with him at Cambridge United and he was great in both boxes . For just outstanding talent and an aura about him was Paul Gascoigne at Boston United
Toughest opponent you have played against and why?
Lee Trundle of Swansea was just an outstanding baller and he knew how to finish, his skill was just a pleasure to watch
Best Ground you have played at?
Coventry City's Highfield Road when we played Charlton in the final of the FA Youth Cup and won after extra time 1-0, there was over 12000 fans! Or Blackburn's ground when we played them in the FA Cup 3rd proper for Kettering.
If you could play with any player from the past or present, who and why?
George Best! Just to pick up all his Miss World cast offs
Funniest team-mate, and why?
Stuart Balmer ex Boston United and Charlton Athletic central defender, such great banter on and off the pitch , top top bloke
