SURE SHOT SAM IS SPOT ON AS STEELMEN ARE SUCCESSFUL

ROMULUS 0 CORBY TOWN 2

“Mulready wrestled the ball away from team mate Leslie and again netted from the spot.”

Corby Town made progress in a senior F.A knock out competition for the first time since October 2013 and kept their first clean sheet in seventeen competitive fixtures as they made it three wins out of three under Steven Kinniburgh.
The Steelmen almost had the boost of a second minute lead when Sam Warburton fed Leon Lobjoit down the left wing, he found Sam Mulready in the centre and Mullers' shot was blocked by a combination of goalkeeper Billy Spink and centre half Cameron Lee.
Spink then saved a Paul Malone header from a Warburton throw at the foot of a post and kept out a shot by Mulready before Steven Leslie hit an attempt wide. As Corby continued to attack Jordan O'Brien fired a shot high and wide and Lobjoit raced onto a through ball but pushed it too far ahead and invited the save from the overworked Spink.
Having failed to make the breakthrough in the opening period it took Corby just three minutes to go ahead after the interval. Lobjoit worked himself into a good position inside the area and Spink and Ricky Hill combined to send him crashing to the turf. Referee Mr Greg Rollason pointed to the spot and Mulready stepped up to comfortably beat Spink.
That was a good decision by Mr Rollason but minutes later he booked Jordan Crawford for diving when he didn't go to ground as he was knocked off balance by Cameron Lee on the edge of the penalty area. That one was baffling.
Sam Wilson had seen little action in the Corby goal but he remained alert to make a good save from Barry Fitzharris - although the effort would have been ruled out for offside anyway. The hosts then did get the ball into the net but their celebrations were cut short by another offside flag.
The Steelmen were still comfortably on top, however, and Spink made a point blank save from a Mulready header before substitute Connor Kennedy curled a long range effort just wide.
With ten minutes remaining Corby made the game safe with another penalty. A shot by Lobjoit hit Hill on the arm and although there was little the defender could do to get out of the way the spot kick was awarded. Mulready wrestled the ball away from team mate Leslie and again netted from the spot.
With the game safe Steven Kinniburgh took the opportunity to give Under-18s captain Dean McBride his first taste of senior football for the final few minutes.
