Corby were condemned to their first league defeat in five matches at Steel Park on Saturday, as two goals in the last five minutes were enough to see Nuneaton walk away with all three points.
Boro striker Lee Moore headed the away side into the lead in the 85th minute, before Wesley York provided a deft touch in stoppage time to ensure a Nuneaton triumph.
The Steelmen, looking to follow on from their thumping victory over Droylsden on Wednesday, just couldn’t seem to find the killer touch in the final third, and had an air of frustration about them all afternoon.
Nuneaton, on the other hand, were the slightly more composed of the two sides, and always looked the more likely to score.
Lee Moore forced Chris Mackenzie to make an early sprawling save; his curled effort from the left-hand side of the box was beaten away by the Steelmen stopper in the fifth minute.
Corby responded by winning a corner, but even finding himself unmarked in the box, the usually-reliant Matt Rhead could only head the ball over. Ben Pugh found himself in a similar position in front of the Corby goal minutes later, but his header spun wide of the left-hand post.
The visitors thought they had snatched the lead just under the quarter hour mark, but York’s subtle nod into an empty net was judged offside by the assistant referee.
Boro striker Pugh nearly broke the deadlock just before half-time, but the ever-present Chris Mackenzie was equal to his hooked effort.
Corby responded positively to the introduction of the second-half and began with an onslaught towards the Nuneaton goal. Lee Beeson smashed an effort just past the left-hand post, whilst Matt Rhead saw his header cleared off the line following Corby’s fourth successive corner.
Andy Hall almost broke the deadlock with fifteen minutes to go, but his left-sided drive just fizzed past the Boro goal.
With the clock ticking down at Steel Park, York found himself through on goal and should have nudged Nuneaton in front in the 80th minute, but Mackenzie was quick off his line to make a stupendous save.
But unfortunately for the Steelmen, York made amends for his glaring miss five minutes later, by assisting strike-partner Lee Moore to break the deadlock. Finding space on the left, York floated in a cross which eluded Delroy Gordon and found the unmarked Moore.
York then went onto seal the Steelmen’s fate in the 90th minute when he nipped the ball around Phil Gulliver before deftly dinking the ball over Chris Mackenzie for Nuneaton’s second.
