Steelmen boss Graham Drury has spoken of his pride following Corby Town’s outstanding 4-1 victory over Conference side Kidderminster in the fourth round of the FA Cup with Budweiser.
He told www.corbytownfc.co.uk: “I’m just so proud of the boys, the effort and commitment they put in was unbelievable. The performances across the park were all fantastic, they wasn’t a bad player out there tonight.
“Being one down at half time was a bit disheartening, but I said to the lads if we stick one away, we’ll win it. And they didn’t just win it; they were unbelievable and won it by a comfortable margin.”
Drury refused to pick out specific players for special recognition, insisting that every man in a white shirt played a massive part in the victory.
“It’s not about single players tonight, not by a long shot. It’s about the whole team and they have been absolutely superb tonight. I literally couldn’t pick out one bad player there.
“But there’s always going to be one notable absence in my eyes, and that’s our late chairman Peter Mallinger. I’ll keep saying that until I finish at Corby because the guy was just a true inspiration. I know he’ll be watching somewhere and he’ll be absolutely buzzing about the way the lads are performing at the moment.”
The Steelmen’s current overall form has seen them push up to 5th in the league, whilst also enjoying a lucrative FA Cup with Budwiser run.
“We’ve lost just once in 11 games and have conceded the least goals in our league. Theres a lot of pluses to take from our game at the moment and I’m chuffed about the atmosphere in the dressing room.
“And we score goals! So that’s just the recipe for a good side. But, as I always say, the next game is also more important then your last and we’ve got to be just as good on Saturday as we were tonight, if not better.”
Corby Town have received a positive response from applicants to the role of first-team manager.
