Steelmen boss Graham Drury has praised his players for their battling performance in Wales, as they overcame a tricky tie to travel back with three points.
He told www.corbytownfc.co.uk: “This was a tough place to come, there’s no atmosphere and it’s quite a flat playing surface and it’s hard to raise yourself to that. I said to the lads at half-time you’ve got to find that spark yourselves and fair play to them, they did that.”
“I think the second half in particular went quite well, getting two goals at an important stage in the match was brilliant. And the clean sheet as well, that’s always nice.”
Looking ahead to Corby’s next match at Bishop Stortford on Tuesday, Drury called upon his players to return to Steel Park with another three points.
“Before the game today I wanted to take a minimum of four points from the two matches, but now we’ve got three in Wales we need to take another three at Bishop. Six points from two games would be massive for us right now because of how tight the league is at the moment.”
“If we hadn’t have won today we could have slipped to 10th or 11th, but three points keeps us in the mix at the top of the table. I thought this was a real key point of the season today and obviously we’ve done well.”
Drury also took time out after the match to praise club physio Kev Grundy who will sadly be leaving the club due to work commitments.
“It was Kev’s last game here today and he’s worked with me since day one. He’s going to be such a hard act to follow because in the entire time I’ve worked with him, he’s never misdiagnosed an injury once.”
“He’s left some big shoes to fill, both in size and in manner, but I’d just like to thank him for everything he’s done for me and the club and we’re all certainly going to miss him.”
Corby Town have received a positive response from applicants to the role of first-team manager.
