Corby Town manager Graham Drury was full of praise for his in-form side following an impressive 5-2 victory over Droylsden at Steel Park.
Only two points separated the teams ahead of the fixture, however Corby brushed their Manchester based opponents aside, to bounce back from last weekend’s FA Cup exit at the hands of nPower League 2 Bristol Rovers.
Drury told www.corbytownfc.co.uk: “It was another great squad performance, we had a couple of players out with niggles and injuries, and once again the boys on the bench were tremendous. They have a fantastic team spirit in the dressing room and are all pulling in the same direction. From number one to nineteen they have a great attitude.
“I thought we got sloppy after 20-25 minutes or so. We stopped pressing Droylsden and started to give the ball away cheaply in midfield. This allowed them to get a foothold in the game and give them some belief going into half time.
“The break was just what we needed, and once we got the lads into the changing room and settled them down we started to play our own game again. We started to press and use the ball much better in possession. It was great to score five goals at Steel Park again too.”
Drury was also full of praise for debutants Sam Mullarkey and Lee Beeson, who joined from Stamford in recent weeks.
“Sam had a great game, he worked the shoulder well and looks like he will link up really well with Matt Rhead up top. But then you also look at Rogan, he came off the bench and set one up with his first touch and was unlucky not to get one himself. The competition for places at the club is fantastic at the moment, but both Mullarky and Beeson played very well tonight and had great debuts.”
The only disappointment on the night was that there were less supporters in the home end at Steel Park than they took to Bristol last weekend, however the manager was encouraged by the support during the FA Cup run and believes that it will be higher on Saturday.
“I would like to thank those who came and supported us against Droylsden, you were vocal as ever. We know that our supporters have spent a lot of money over the course of the FA Cup run and we have had some long trips in the league recently, so we really appreciate it, especially on such a cold winter's night. I would also like to urge those who supported in the FA Cup to come back and support us in the league.
“Nuneaton on Saturday is going to be a big game, hopefully we will get a few more through the turnstiles and we know that they will bring a fair few with them.
“We will be going out to win the game, now that we are 4th in the table we certainly want to ensure that we stay there.“
Corby Town have received a positive response from applicants to the role of first-team manager.
