Corby Town boss Graham Drury insists his side have every right to be proud of their performance, despite going down 1-0 at home to Guiseley.
He told www.corbytownfc.co.uk: “We’ve matched one of the top sides in the league today and make no doubt about it, they are a top footballing side themselves and will be there or there abouts at the end of the season.
“We matched them across the park today and created just as many chances as they did but they stuck that one away and we didn’t. We did have some good chances to do so, we just didn’t have that finishing edge today.
“Andy Hall could have snatched us an equaliser at the death but obviously he’s been brought down by one of their defenders. That’s unlucky because we could have been talking about a point gained right now, and I really think we deserved a draw too."
Despite his encouraging words about the performance, Drury knows there are still areas that the Steelmen need to improve.
“I thought the final ball in the final third at times was sloppy and that was frustrating, because there was the odd occasion were we did connect well. I think we could have done a lot better in the second half actually and we could have been a lot cleverer on the ball.
“But there’s always things that a team needs to work on and get right. The lads should be proud of their performance, having shown that they can match one of the top sides in the league. But there’s always more work to be done.”
Corby Town have received a positive response from applicants to the role of first-team manager.
