Corby Town manager Graham Drury dedicated his team’s sensational victory against Bishop’s Stortford to the club's late chairman Peter Mallinger.
Drury told www.corbytownfc.co.uk: “This win was the perfect way to say goodbye to Peter. He would have loved to have been here, but I know he was watching. I’m expecting a call from him in the morning, raving about how well the team did tonight!
"Our performance tonight reflected Saturday’s in a lot of ways, it was a massive team performance and all the lads played for one another. You can see that they’re gelling well because of the way they play and the way that they all celebrate the goals together."
"There’s a healthy competition within the side at the moment, everyone who pulls on a Corby Town shirt in the last two games has done us proud and they’re all vying for their place."
Despite winning the first two games of the season so empathically, Steelmen boss Drury is keeping his feet firmly on the ground and expects his team to do the same.
“It would be easy to get carried away after two fantastic results like that, but it’s a tough old league and you’re only as good as your next performance.
"As much as the fans would hate it, I would settle for a 1-0 win at Hyde on Saturday. But, as I said after the Halifax game, if the team carry on playing the way they are at the moment, we won’t go far wrong.”
Corby Town have received a positive response from applicants to the role of first-team manager.
