Corby Town manager Graham Drury admits that another tough away draw in the FA Cup with Budweiser was not his preferred choice, however still holds a belief that the underdogs can progress against their Blue Square Bet Premier opposition.
“First we drew Histon, then Hednesford Town and now Kidderminster Harriers, all away from home. Not only do we seem to be drawn away, but against very tough opposition. Every cup draw so far has been away, even the NFA Hillier Cup.”
Despite the tough task of toppling the former Football League club standing in the way of Corby Town and a second successive season in the First Round Proper, Drury believes that his side can find a way through.
“Kidderminster Harriers have started the campaign well, and we know we are in for a very difficult challenge, but it is a challenge that we will relish as the underdogs, all of the pressure will be on the home side. We have nothing to lose.
“We have already managed to navigate our way through two very tough away ties to reach the fourth qualifying round, so the players know that they can handle it and will go into the match confident of an upset.
Drury will also be renewing acquaintances with Steve Burr, the former Stalybridge Celtic manager who is now at the helm of the Aggborough club.
“Steve Burr will believe that we will be a tough draw for his team too. He has come up against my teams a few times in the Blue Square North and will know to expect a competitive match. We have started the season well and he will know that we will be up for the challenge.
“We have shown plenty of fight, spirit and determination in this competition so far, and if we can replicate that then we can get through.”
Corby Town U19’s have made up for the lack of senior FA Cup action at Steel Park so far this campaign as they face their fourth straight home tie in this season’s FA Youth Cup against Colchester United on Monday 31st October.
Corby Town have received a positive response from applicants to the role of first-team manager.
