Graham Drury has labelled his side as the underdogs ahead of Wednesday evenings FA Cup with Budweiser second qualifying round replay against Histon at Steel Park.
The sides drew 1-1 at the Glassworld Stadium in Cambridgeshire on Saturday, and the Corby Town boss has admitted that Histon’s full-time status will provide them with the upper-hand going into this week’s replay;
“We are going to have to make changes for Wednesday, obviously Paul Mayo is a forced change as his suspension has kicked in. Jordan Smith may also get a start alongside Matt Rhead, as Rogan has a little groin strain that is niggling him.
“The advantage is clearly with Histon, we are the underdogs. They are a full-time side and have much better preparation time than us. Livermore and his squad will be analysing Saturday’s game, ice-bathing properly, eating properly, and getting themselves mentally prepared for the game, whilst our lads will have three days at work and very limited training time together.
“Forget home advantage, we are definite underdogs in my opinion, but every underdog has its day and our 12th man could certainly help to even the odds.”
Drury also welcomes Aynsley McDonald back into his squad, although Paul Malone is still a major doubt.
“We have no other new injury worries, and having Aynsley McDonald back and Jordan Spruce fully fit certainly bolsters our options, which can only be a good thing. Whoever we put out has to finish the job and get us into the next round.”
Reflecting on Saturday’s draw in Cambridgeshire, Drury said;
“The heat certainly played a big part today, it was very warm out there.
“It was a very tight cup tie, and to be honest part of me is disappointed because I expect Rhead and Hibbsy to do much better when they have headers in the box.
“But you know, they also had a couple of through balls that they perhaps should have done more with, so it was a fair result.”
Drury was full of praise for his side for their goal just after the break however, not just goalscorer Andy Hall:
“It was a great goal. There were 7, 8, 9 or 10 passes during the build up straight from kick-off. I told them we needed to pass the ball better at half-time and what a response. You can watch matches all season at any level and you won’t see many goals better than that.
“Considering Histon had labelled us as a hoofball side, full of big brutes and lumps, we certainly taught them a lesson in football with Andy Hall’s goal.”
Corby Town have received a positive response from applicants to the role of first-team manager.
