The stalemate between Corby and Histon is set to be broken tomorrow night, as the Cambridge side travel to Steel Park for a replay of Saturday’s FA Cup with Budwiser fixture.
A second-half goal from Histon striker Dan Holman ensured the two sides remain deadlocked in their encounters this season, with both matches ending in 1-1 draws.
But, with the victors of tomorrow night’s fixture due to progress in the FA Cup with Budwiser, fans will finally see a winner between the two outfits.
Corby boss Graham Drury expects a hard-fought contest and admits his side go into the match as the underdogs, despite the home advantage.
“Histon have had the better preparation leading up to the replay. With their player’s playing full-time they’ve had more time to train and work on aspects of their game that they want to improve.
“Unfortunately, all my lads have had to work this week and therefore we’ve been a bit pushed for time. I still think we can progress to the next stage though, we just need to learn to take our chances when they are presented to us.”
Histon manager David Livermore will be giving the same advice to his side before tomorrows clash, as they failed to capitalise on a number of opportunities during Saturday’s tussle themselves.
Goal-scorer Holman was especially guilty of missing a number of good chances, including two one-on-one situations with Corby’s Chris Mackenzie. The Steelmen stopper was in good form on Saturday though, thwarting Histon’s attempts at goal on a number of occasions.
Corby defender Paul Mayo is set to miss the match through suspension following his red card against Gloucester City. Welsh full-back Aynsley McDonald is expected to replace him, slotting in on the left side of defence.
The winners of tomorrow’s clash will take on Hednesford Town in the FA Cup with Budwiser third qualifying round. The Pitmen beat Carlton Town on Saturday to progress, with Chris Clements scoring the only goal of the game from the spot.
Corby Town have received a positive response from applicants to the role of first-team manager.
