Corby Town's latest FA Cup adventure kicks-off against Histon tomorrow, as Graham Drury's men begin their march to the Wembley arch against David Livermore's side at the Glassworld Stadium.
Drury will be looking to replicate the Steelmen’s FA Cup successes of last year, where a lucrative run took them to the first round proper. Corby were eventually knocked out by Blue Square Premier opponents Luton, having earned a replay at Kenliworth Road with a 1-1 draw in their first encounter.
Drury will also look to replicate Corby’s goal-scoring form from their last match, where they smashed four goals past Blyth Spartans for their first win in three.
Midfielder Leon Hibbert completed an impressive comeback from his early season injury by grabbing the last goal of the game on Saturday, ensuring he stays firmly in Drury’s future plans for the Steelmen.
Histon themselves will be looking to build on a victory in their last match, an impressive 3-0 win away against Hinckley United. Top scorer Dan Holman snatched the last of the goals in injury time, taking his tally to six for the season.
Stutes manager Livermore was pleased with his sides result, but still not completely satisfied with the team’s overall finishing. Matching Graham Drury’s previous complaint of his Corby side, Livermore called for “a bit more quality in the final third.”
It was honours even between Corby and Histon in their last encounter, with neither outfit doing enough to earn all three points.
Steelmen defender Delroy Gordon’s first half header had given Drury’s side the initial lead, but was cancelled out by full-back Harri Hawkins an hour later.
Corby had controlled the play for the first sixty minutes, but failed to make their dominance count. Steelmen supporters will be hoping that their front line can find the finishing touch that was lacking in their last visit, by converting the chances presented.
Both Matt Rhead and Jordan Smith will have been given a bout of confidence after netting against Blyth Spartans. The strikers will be hoping their scoring-form continues and their goals are enough to see Corby progress in the FA Cup with Budwiser.
Corby Town have received a positive response from applicants to the role of first-team manager.
