New Corby Town assistant manager Paul Holden has issued a warning to their Blue Square North rivals next season, that Corby Town will bounce back from a disappointing campaign and aim to entertain in the process.
Speaking exclusively to www.corbytownfc.co.uk Holden said: “We need to get the town interested again and I would hope that the calibre of signings that we have made already has shown our ambition."
Last week saw a number of signings for the Steelmen, including former fans' favourite Leon Hibbert returning from Gainborough Trinity and a new deal for Steve Towers. These recruits are key to Drury and Holden's plan to bring the beautiful game back to North Northamptonshire.
“I am firm believer in getting the ball down, it's a lovely pitch in the new stadium and Graham and I are both of the mind that the ball should be in contact with the grass for as long as possible.
“If we can create an environment where the players are relaxed and can enjoy their football then the results will come and that will attract more people to come and watch. We want to play good, exciting football."
Seven years ago Holden produced the blueprint that Crystal Palace used, and have continued to use since he left, to nurture the talents of the Eagles' Academy graduates. He is looking forward to achieving a similar level of success with the Steelmen.
“Graham and I have sat down and we've identified a job specification for what each player in each position has to be capable of doing and from that we've identified our targets and have started to get the backbone of the side signed up. When that is working properly we'll be able to blood youngsters and they will develop within the system that we'll play.
“We'll play a particular style at home but we have to be flexible, we have to be capable to adapting when we're away and we know at times we're going to have to mix things up a bit.
“The one thing I will guarantee is that the players will be fit, they'll be no excuses there. Pre-season is going to be an intense time for them but we have an idea of how we want to play and the players programmes will be structured around that.”
Corby Town have received a positive response from applicants to the role of first-team manager.
