HOPEWELL PRAISES FANS AFTER E.ON COMPLETE MAKEOVER
28th June 2011
Corby Town director Ian Hopewell has praised “the people power” of the Steelmen fans just as E.ON have completed their energy efficient makeover of the new stadium.
The club won the Energy Fit Makeover, thanks to a competition on social networking website Facebook last season, in which supporters had to vote for their non-league team.
“Without the involvement of the fans we definitely wouldn’t have won” Hopewell revealed. “A lot of the time fans like ours think there’s no point in entering competitions like E.ONs, because they think there’s no way of winning.
"But our supporters are clearly very aware of their club. The drive for Corby to win the competition was very much fan-driven. It just shows you what people power can do."
The work that E.ON have carried out in and around the new stadium is thought to have cost in the region of £20,000. However Corby Town director Hopewell has described the makeover as “priceless.”
Most of the work the energy company has carried out revolves around the stadiums electrical systems. All the lights have been replaced with motion-sensor fittings and both the home and away changing rooms have been completely rewired.
E.ON have also replaced the old boiler system which ensures better water flow, constant hot water and improved heating controls. Hopewell has enthused that the renovation will save the club a lot of money both in the long and short term.
Winning the competition also entitled the club to a visit from the FA Cup, which took place in May this year, with club volunteers invited to see the famous trophy.

As part of the prize the club received a behind closed doors visit from the FA Cup back in May and the club is hoping it's a visit they'll be able to repeat in the forthcoming season. The club wants supporters who made such an important contribution to the Steelmen's success in securing the makeover to also benefit and have their photo taken with the most famous trophy in English football.
Corby Town have received a positive response from applicants to the role of first-team manager.
