Corby Town play host to npower League 1 side Notts County on Monday evening, in the first ever match at the club’s new stadium.
With less than a month to go until the Blue Square Bet North opener against FC Halifax Town at The Shay, Graham Drury will be eager to use the match to aid him in finding his best eleven.
Notts County, the oldest league club in the world, are currently managed by Martin Allen. The Magpies narrowly avoided relegation last season following a dramatic 1-1 draw against npower League 1 champions Brighton in their final game, which was enough to keep them up.
The Steelmen will have to be at their best to keep County’s new signings Jeff Hughes and Hamza Bencherif at bay.
Ex-Blackburn Rovers starlet Alan Judge is also highly regarded by the Magpies and the fans are adamant he’ll be one to watch in 2011/12.
Allen’s men come into Monday’s fixture on the back of an impressive 1-1 home draw with Barclays Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers. Wolves took the lead through England international Matt Jarvis, before Neil Bishop netted a last-minute equaliser.
The Steelmen on the other hand will be looking to kick-start their pre-season following an indifferent week. Drury’s charges played three matches in four days last week, the Bob Cummings Cup victory against Corby S&L, sandwiched in between defeats at the hands of St Neots and Grantham Town.
However the manager has now released a number of trialists and following a weekend away with the players, he will be hoping that the squad will have bonded and are ready to face the test of playing against League opposition.
Drury told corbytownfc.co.uk; "Notts County will be a good test for us, we are all looking forward to welcoming them to our new ground.
“There are a handful of players recently who have played for County and gone on to play for us and we've got a good relationship with them as a club.
"It is close to the start of their season, so I expect they'll bring a strong squad down and give us a good test.”
Corby’s new stadium name will also be announced, prior to kick-off. Three lucky supporters who voted for the winning name will be picked out of a hat at this time, winning two free tickets to either the Stevenage or Luton Town friendlies.
In addition to this, the name of one supporter, from the list who proposed the original suggestion, will also be picked at random and they will win four tickets for a VIP day out at the Rangers match during the 2011/12.
Corby Town have received a positive response from applicants to the role of first-team manager.
