STEELMEN'S SHIRT SPONSORSHIP GOING UNDER THE HAMMER
8th September 2011
Corby Town Football Club have announced that they are going to auction off the sponsorship on the front of their maroon away shirt in a silent auction.
The Steelmen, currently sixth in the Blue Square North, have made a solid start to the new campaign. An opening day victory at title favourites AFC Halifax Town was followed up by a 6-1 win over Bishop's Stortford in the first competitive league fixture at Steel Park. Despite suffering a disappointing defeat to leaders Hyde, who remain unbeaten, in their next match, Graham Drury's side have continued to impress in front of goal, beating an Eastwood side who had lost only twice in 25 games heading into the match, 5-0 on Monday.
Acting Chairman David Mallinger explained how the opportunity has come about: “We have been in negotiations with a national company for sometime regarding the opportunity for them to sponsor our away shirts. Whilst we're not in a position to confirm who this business is at this point, we have reached a stage in negotiations where they have been impressed by what we have to offer and have made it clear they would like to support the club in other areas, therefore we're at a point where the advertising space on our away strip has unexpectedly become available.
The club has made a good start to the new campaign and after an eye catching win at Halifax on the opening day, where we wore the quality Joma kit for the first time, we have continued to lay the foundations for what we hope will be a successful season.
“This is an exciting time to be involved with the club, the new stadium has seen increased number of supporters coming through the gate and the community and the town are more actively engaged with what the club is looking to achieve than ever before. We believe we now have a strong local and national media profile and with that comes opportunities. We have a lot to offer a potential sponsor so we are now looking to partner up with a similarly minded ambitious business, and to demonstrate our innovative approach we thought this would be a different way to do things.”
Starting from today and running for a period of two weeks, the club are inviting companies to place a bid for the (front of ) shirt sponsorship of the away strip in a silent auction.
The bidding will close at 5pm on Thursday 14th September and at that point the winning bid, which will need to be in excess of the club's reserve – which will remain private - will be contacted.
