Corby Town have signed attacking midfielder Lee Beeson from Stamford. The former Grimsby Town youngster has signed for an undisclosed fee, ahead of interest from other clubs.
The 21-year-old winger scored 18 goals last term and has been Stamford's leading scorer for the past two seasons from the right flank. With 10 goals already under his belt this year Corby boss Graham Drury is delighted to have been able to tie up a deal to bring Beeson to Steel Park:
“Lee is a good signing at a good age for us and will add to the competition for places in the squad. He offers good quality delivery on the run and takes a fantastic dead ball. He has scored half a dozen times from direct free-kicks already this season, whereas as a team we have only scored once so he'll give us some different options to what we already have here.
“He's scored 40 odd goals for Stamford in the last two and a half seasons and that is a great return for any midfielder at any level. What he offers us is going to make us even more of a threat from areas higher up the pitch and I'm excited by his arrival.
“I must once again place on record my thanks for the support the board have given me by allowing me to bring in Lee now, even though he is cup tied. They have agreed to re-invest some of the money we have already made from the cup run whilst we're still in the competition. We have moved quickly to push his signature through because we're aware of the interest in him.”
The winger will be reunited with striker Sam Mullarkey, who also signed from the Daniels last month, and defender Paul Malone, who returned to Corby from Stamford at the tailend of last season.
Drury added: “Unfortunately the fans have yet to see anything of Sam because of his suspension but I am excited about what the pair will bring to Corby and I hope the fans are too. They'll certainly add to the competition for places within the squad and will provide good attacking options for us.
“We have made a good start to the season but it is still very early days and we have to move forward in the right way. The board have shown a real commitment to the future of this football club since they have come in and we have established a good mix of promising youngsters and experience in the squad; all of which are ambitious individuals and that is a good thing to have in any dressing room.”
Beeson has experience of the Blue Square North having made his name for Boston United at this level prior to his switch to Stamford and he is looking forward to making the step back up, having originally joined the Evo-Stick Southern League side in pursuit of regular first-team football.
He explained: “As soon as I heard of the interest I was excited and having had a long chat with Graham I made my mind up straight away that I was going to sign. Graham has been a big influence in the move and I've also spoken with Paul Malone who only has good things to say about the club.
“They have started the season well, as have Stamford and having enjoyed my time there, I'm now looking to make a contribution to Corby's season. I know what this level is about and I am a better player for my time at Stamford and can't wait to get started. It's going to be difficult to force my way into the side but it's a challenge I'm up for.”
Corby Town have received a positive response from applicants to the role of first-team manager.
