The U18’s moved up to 2nd in the Northants Senior Youth League, with a fine 2-1 win at Thrapston Town.
The Steelboys are now just 5 points behind league leaders Peterborough Northern Star, with three games in hand over the Cambridgeshire club.
A firm header from James Burlington gave Corby Town the lead at half time, after he powered home a header from Alex Leech’s pin point cross, leaving the home goalkeeper stranded.
The Steelboys dominated the second period, however the Thrapston goalkeeper pulled off a string of top draw saves to keep them in the match. Then, against the run of play, a rare mistake by Corby goalkeeper Luke Smith gifted Town an equaliser. He allowed a punt to bounce over him and nestle into the net.
This did not deter the visitors though, and Alex Leech turned provider again, when his corner was flicked on at the near post and met by Leon Trimble to restore the Corby Town lead, and secure another vital victory.
Corby Town U18’s manager Kev Cushen told www.corbytownfc.co.uk; “I am extremely happy with the mental strength that the team displayed after they levelled. We did not allow our heads to drop and we raised the tempo and showed great desire to win the match.”
Corby Town have received a positive response from applicants to the role of first-team manager.
