Corby Town Under 18's moved up to 4th in the Northants Senior Youth League table last night, with a fine away victory at London Road against Wellingborough Whitworths.
The Steelboys headed into the match on the back of a hard-fought draw against Yaxley, but still seeking their first away win of the campaign.
In an even first half Corby Town had the majority of the play, however the best chances of the hald fell to the home side. Despite that, the teams went into half time level, due to some good goalkeeping and wasteful finishing.
Kevin Cushen's half-time team talk had the desired effect however, as the visitors stepped it up in the second period.
The only goal of the match arrived on 75 minutes. Lewis Addy picked up the ball on the halfway line and ran at the Whitworths defence, who found him too hot to handle. He played a deft one-two on the edge of the box with Ryan Gormley before finishing well past the Wellingborough team's goalkeeper.
Corby manager Kevin Cushen praised his team's efforts after the match; "It was a wonderful effort from the lads, and a fantastic result. We are certainly starting to improve as a team and I am pleased with the progress that we are making."
Corby Town have received a positive response from applicants to the role of first-team manager.
