Corby Town Under 18's battled to a 1-1 draw away at Yaxley in the Northants Senior Youth League on Thursday evening.
The conditions were difficult, as the Steelboys managed to contain the hosts in the wind and rain to keep the scores level at the break.
The weather calmed during the second period, and so did Kev Cushen's side who started to play some good football.
It was Yaxley who took the lead however on the hour mark, however Corby Town were level just two minutes later.
Some fine link-up play from the visitors saw striker Ryan Gormley get behind Yaxley's back four, before playing a neat pass across the face of the goal for midfielder Ryan Brittan to finish from six-yards (62).
The goal lifted Corby and they pushed for a winner, however they could not manage to turn their dominance into a winning goal and had to settle for a creditable point.
Manager Kevin Cushen was pleased with the Under 18's display. He told www.corbytownfc.co.uk: "It was a hard fought point in difficult conditions, so I am pleased with the lads. Our goal was very well worked and showed what we are capable of."
The Steelboy's boss did bemoan his side's finishing however, and felt that they could have won the match.
"We just need to start showing a bit more composure in front of goal, which is something that we will definitely be working on in training.
"We certainly had the chances to win the game, and I feel we just need that little bit of composure to start turning draws like this into wins."
Corby Town U18's next fixture is away to Wellingborough Whitworths on Thursday 13th October at 7.45.
