For half term Corby Town and Cambrisge City academies set up a day of matches between mixed age groups.
Three sides, made up of mixing under 8's and 9's, Under 10's and 11's and Under 12's and 13's were put together for the games.
However, as Corby Town had 22 under 12’s and 13’s we mixed them into two squads each playing Cambridge City for two of the 4 quarters. And then a ‘friendly’ with only the two coaches pride at stake at the end between the two Corby Town sides.
The Steelboys were competitive in all 3 matches with one win, one loss and one draw, so all in all both camps could take some positives from the results.
The comeback of the season so far was the under 8/9 squad that pulled back from the brink at 2-4 down with only a few minutes left to draw 4-4. The under 10/11 squad were unlucky to lose a match that they played some excellent football in. This despite losing 3 strong players to injury, holiday and the coaches asking one player to play in an older age group to help his development.
The Corby Town 12’s/13’s won the overall match, winning 2 quarters losing one and drawing one. There were some very pleasing performances none more than the under 11 that was drafted into the squad. He opened the scoring against defenders who were 2 years older and both physically bigger and stronger.
A huge well done to all of the players who represented Corby Town and a big thank you to Cambridge City for agreeing to the day.
