Corby Town progressed to the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup with Budweiser by beating Histon in the replay, thanks to goals from Josh Moreman and Ryan Semple.
Moreman missed two penalties, despite scoring the rebound of the first, but made their way into the next round regardless, where they will host Hendon.
There were early chances for both sides in the opening eighteen minutes but neither side managed to make an impact, until Nat Wedderburn went inches away from the target with a solid header, going out for a Histon goal kick.
There was a moment of madness from the Histon goalkeeper Joe Melling minutes later, as he tried to control the ball with his feet and seen it go out for a corner. The resulting set piece landed to Pierrick Briand and his long range effort went just wide.
Just before the half an hour mark, the scores somehow remained 0-0 as top scorer Moreman seen his effort cleared off the line. The following goal mouth scramble was cleared well by the Histon defence.
Minutes before half time, Remy Clerima pushed Avelino Vieira in the area to give Corby the chance to take the lead from the penalty spot. Moreman stepped up and the effort was well saved by Melling, but fortunately for Corby, he couldn’t keep a hold of it and the net was found by the kick taker, as Corby went in at the break 1-0 up.
Early in the second half, Ryan Semple, who was re-called to the starting XI by Chris Plummer for Greg Kaziboni, found the target but hit it straight into the arms of Melling, who handled it well.
And seconds later, Vieira was yet again brought down by Clerima and another penalty kick was given. Moreman stepped up to try and score straight from the spot second time round and failed to find the target all together, giving Histon a goal kick. Corby responded well with a couple of chances from Vieira and Malone, but still no second goal.
The back of the net was finally found in the second half as Moreman crossed the ball across goal, Vieira failed to get a foot to it, but Ryan Semple was there at the back post to fire it home, giving Corby the two goal cushion they had long looked for and deserved. Semple was shortly replaced by Leon McKenzie due to not being 100 percent fit, but a goal and an impressive performance seen him named man of the match.
Histon found a way back into the game with six minutes to play as Stefan Galinski brought down Adrian Sear on the edge of the area and the on loan Derby County defender was shown the red card. Claudio Hoban stepped up to take the free kick and fired it past Paul Walker to make the final five minutes very tense.
But after some decent defensive play in the dying minutes, Corby hung on and will go on to play Hendon at Steel Park a week on Saturday.
