Steel Park is set to play host to a familiar foe tomorrow, as Corby take on Cambridgeshire-based club Histon for the fourth time this season.
With two draws and a win under their belts against the Stutes already the Steelmen will be looking to extend their impressive record against Dav Livermore’s side.
But as previous clashes have shown, that won’t be an easy task. It took extra time to separate the two sides in their last encounter, with Matt Rhead and Paul Malone netting for the Steelmen to see them triumph over Histon in the FA Cup.
Tomorrow’s Blue Square match-up follows the Steelmen’s latest defeat in their own back yard, going down 2-0 to Hinckley on Wednesday evening.
The mid-week match was Corby’s first game in three weeks, but manager Drury wasn’t set to use the impromptu winter break as an excuse.
He told www.corbytownfc.co.uk: “It wasn’t ideal, especially with some new faces in the squad, but at the end of the day we were simply beaten by a better side on the night.
“Hinckely had better movement then us, which I think was the biggest difference. Their players were passing and moving, passing and moving, something that we weren’t doing.”
Despite tasting defeat on Wednesday night the match may prove to the Steelmen’s advantage. Opponents Histon haven’t played a game since the 30th of January, possibly giving Corby the edge in match fitness.
The Stutes were held to a one-all stalemate by Worcester City in their last outing, with their star striker Dan Holman scoring a penalty early in the second half. The Steelmen will have to be wary of hitman Holman who, having scored six goals in seven matches, was the Blue Square Bet North’s Player of the Month for January.
