Corby Town travel to St George’s Lane on Saturday afternoon in search of their first points of the season, against unbeaten Worcester City.
City, who are managed by Carl Heeley, drew their opening game of the season away at league newcomers Bradford Park Avenue 2-2 before beating Bishop’s Stortford 2-0 at home on Tuesday evening in front of an impressive crowd of 768.
Striker Mike Symons is the man to watch for captain Paul Malone and his fellow Steelmen defenders, with the former Gloucester striker netting an impressive 19 times last season. He also has 3 to his name already this term, after just two games!
He has been joined at Worcester by former Nuneaton striker Danny Glover, meaning that the Steelmen defence will have to be on top form to keep them at bay.
However, Ian Sampson is also able to release his own goal machine on the Blue Square Bet North for the first time this weekend as Ricky Miller returns from suspension. The young striker was impressive during pre-season and netted a total of 8 goals in just 5 games for Corby, including memorable strikes against Northampton Town and Stoke City.
Corby have started their season with a stutter after losing 1-0 at home to Vauxhall Motors and 3-0 away at Solihull Moors, but will be buoyed by memories of last season’s victory at Worcester. Second half goals from Phil Gulliver and Nick Rogan were enough to seal all three points for the Steelmen last September, with the hosts also missing a last minute penalty.
