Playing on the famous Steel Park turf is something that most Corby Town fans can only dream of, but last Saturday that dream became a reality for some in aid of the Corby Town Supporters’ Trust.
The UEFA Champions League final and Championship play-off final were given a run for their money as the Corby faithful donned their boots and shin pads for the event.
Supporters of the Steelmen enjoyed a fantastic experience as they followed in the footsteps of their idols and took to the pitch for an 11-a-side match, 90 minute match.
The two sides, FC Town of Corby and AC Corby, battled out a close encounter, with FC Town of Corby winning the match 9-7.
A penalty shootout then took place in front of the Castle End following the conclusion of the game. Yet again it was FC Town of Corby who came out on top.
The match managed to raise an impressive £130 for the Corby Town Supporters’ Trust, with fans charged £5 each to play.
The Corby Town Supporters’ Trust would like to thank all of those who took part in the match and Corby Town Football Club for allowing us to use the facilities.
James McCafferty, who played in the match told www.corbytownfc.co.uk: “It was a great day, we have enjoyed it immensely. It was the perfect start to a great week.
"It was also nice to finally see some good football played on the pitch, after a frustrating season."
Robbie Dunion said, “The day was a great success and we are hoping that we can make this an annual game, in partnership with the football club going forward.
“On behalf of the Corby Town Supporters' trust, I would like to thank the football club for allowing us to use the facilities, as well as all of the fans who took part and helped to raise some money for the trust.
