Kev Cushen's Steelboys secured a fantastic win, and moved up to... in the Northants Senior Youth League, following an entertaining encounter with Rushden and Higham United at Steel Park.
Corby Town took the lead after just 5 miniutes, when a fine cross from Lewis Addy found Jake Bettles at the back post, and he made no mistake nodding into the net.
The visitors came close to equalising soon after, when a 20-yard strike rattled the crossbar before bouncing off of the line.
Corby doubled their advantage when another fine ball from Addy from the left found the feet of James Burlington, who slotted home from 12 yards.
Rushden and Higham replied straight from kick-off when poor marking from a corner allowed them a simple goal.
The hosts were not finished yet through and pressed to restore the two-goal advantage. Fraser Glover drove forward and placed a perfect through ball to Addy, who rounded the goalkeeper and slotted home to add to his two assists.
The hosts were on top form and looked dangerous from both flanks. Kieran Joseph went close to adding a fourth, but watched his effort come back from the woodwork.
He made no mistake moments later however, as he scored on the stroke of half-time to ensure that the Steelboys looked comfortable at the break.
Rushden and Higham looked much improved after the re-start, threatening Corby's goal with every attack. However, it was Cushen's side that further extended their lead when Glover found Joseph in the box to score his second and Corby Town's fifth of the evening.
The visitors failed to lie down though and hit back with a well deserved double following some fine football.
A fine solo goal by Jake Bettles ended the contest however, as the talented youngster won the ball in midfield, before driving at their defence with some great footwork and sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.
Rushden did net one more consolation goal before the referee blew for full-time, but it was not enough to deny Corby another win.
Manager Kev Cushen was delighted with the victory, but warned his team not to be complacent at home, "Of course I am pleased to have won the match, but we let them back into it despite being 5-1 up. We have to be aware that teams will enjoy coming to play at Steel Park. It is a great stadium and our opponents will want to come here and play football."
