Corby Town moved within touching distance of the top of the league, with a 1-0 home win over Thrapston Town at Steel Park.
Despite finding themselves at the foot of the table, Thrapston had Corby Town on the back foot from the off, controlling possession, but with little threat.
The hosts started slowly, but sprung into life after half an hour when shots from both Lee Addy and Fraser Glover almost gave them the lead, however the Steelboys were denied by the Thrapston goalkeeper.
Kev Cushen's charges did take the lead on the stroke of half time, when a corner was met at the back post by Glover, who directed a firm header into the top corner.
Corby continued where they had left off in the second period, dominating the match, creating chances at will.
The best chance of the half fell to full-back Tony Bartlett, who hit the woodwork with a thunderous header.
The high-flying hosts did have a late scare however, with a late Thrapston Town free-kick rebounding off of the post.
Manager Kev Cushen told corbytownfc.co.uk: "It was a great second half display, and a well deserved win despite the close scoreline. We are now just two points from the top with a game in hand."
The Steelboys could climb to the summit of the Northants Senior Youth League when they host leaders Yaxley on Monday 30th January at Steel Park and Cushen is looking forward to the match.
"All of the lads are looking forward to the Yaxley game on Monday, they are the leaders however we feel that we have nothing to fear and can beat anybody on our day."
"This is an important fixture for the club and it would be great to see the club's supporters come and cheer the lads on."
