Steelwomen victorious against Roade and the weather
The Steelwomen travelled to Roade knowing that an improved performance was necessary if they were going to book their place in the County Cup Final. Roade had beaten Corby in their last competitive game and had convincingly seen off Corby S&L 4-0 in the Quarter Finals so the steelwomen would need to be somewhat closer to their best than the lacklustre performance a week earlier in their quarter final victory against Moulton.
Going downhill on a boggy pitch first half Corby knew that they would need to get off to a good start to give them an advantage. That is exactly what they did taking control of the game from the off, Corby adapted to the conditions and soon found themselves in front after Zoe Watkins picked up a lose ball, found Nicole Andrejczuk on the edge of the box who calmly lofted the ball into the far corner. Corby would soon double the lead too, this time Laura Dodwell teeing up Andrejczuk who slid the ball under the onrushing keeper. 21 minutes in and Corby grabbed themselves a third with Stacey McConville curling in direct from a corner. Corby continued to look to create another opening but a shored up Roade defence held them at bay.
Now going uphill on a difficult pitch the Steelwomen knew that the game was far from over, a fact made worse when confronted with a snowstorm blustering down hill too, if Corby were going to get through they would need to battle the elements as well as a defiant Roade side. Battle they did however, throwing themselves in front of every shot, defending for their lives, to keep Roade at bay and break their spirit, soon the clouds parted and with the wind dying down Corby started to equalise proceedings in the second half attacking back. However with neither side able to add to the scoresheet its the Steelwomen who are in the final, with Northampton Town awaiting.
