Paul Malone's next appearance for Corby Town - probably at Belper on Saturday 20th January will be his 200th for the club. Although the STEELMEN will celebrate their 70th anniversary this year comparatively few players have played 200 games or more.
Initially a product of junior team Corby Hellenic, Molly and Paul Caswell were called up into Kevin Wilson's squad for Corby Town's 2007 pre-season programme. Neither of the youth team stars were able to break into the first team at that time and Malone's only senior appearance came at the age of 17 in a Northants Senior Cup tie at home to Rushden & Diamonds in October, 2007. In the meantime he continued to put in impressive performances as captain of the club's Under-18 side as they won the league title in 2007/08 and enjoyed a lengthy F.A Youth Cup run which was ended by a defeat away to Luton Town.
Molly's desire for regular senior football led to him joining Stewarts & Lloyds in 2008 and in 2008/09 he helped the Foundrymen win the United Counties League championship. He then spent two seasons with Stamford before rejoining Corby Town in April, 2011.
As well as being a top class defender Paul proved to be a valuable asset at attacking set pieces, scoring 8 goals in 39 games in 2011/12 and 8 in 50 in 2012/13. His popularity on the terraces was such that he was voted Player of the Year by supporters for both seasons.
He was again a regular choice in 2013/14 and had scored 6 goals in 36 appearances when he signed for Stamford again in March, 2014.
In May, 2014 Molly returned to Corby Town as Tommy Wright's captain and added a further 9 goals in 33 appearances before suffering a broken leg against Weymouth in March, 2015 and missing the run in to Corby's Southern League Championship success.
He played a handful of games for Stamford at the start of 2015/16 as part of his rehabilitation from that injury and in January, 2016 moved to the Daniels in a permanent deal. Molly began 2016/17 as Stamford captain before moving on to Kettering Town in September, 2016.
Paul returned to Corby Town colours in the third game of the current campaign and to date has scored 5 goals in 26 games.
