Steelwomen back to winning ways
Convincing win for ladies
Cosby Utd were todays visitors, 1 of the 4 fellow newly promoted sides, off the back of their league winning campaign in the Leicestershire leagues. So far Cosby had recorded similar results to Corby and with both sides missing players, the game was likely to come down to who adapts the quickest. It would be the Steelwomen who flew out of the gates, Nicole Andrejczuk
scoring a hat-trick within the first 14 minutes with Stacey McConville
claiming a 4th after her in-swinging corner was bundled into the net on 20 mins. Perhaps understandably Corby backed off at this stage, this was a mistake though as the time on the ball rejuvenated the young Cosby side who started to show why they have been successful, with an abundance of pace upfront and time on the ball they were able to start testing the Corby backline and soon pulled a goal back.
Corby picked their game up a little in the second half but found the Cosby keeper in inspired form, before Zoe Pittaway
headed home a corner. Next would be the turn of Laura Dodwell
to make an impact first scoring on the 67th before rounding the keeper only to be taken down on the 70th but Nicole Andrejczuk
was on hand to force the ball home. Despite the scoreline Cosby continued to search for their two strikers and got some reward with a fine goal on the 75th min. Corby would have the final say however, Nicole Andrejczuk
felled in the box, leaving Zoe Watkins
to dispatch the penalty.
POTM: Stacey McConville
