Clinical Corby win away at Cobblers
Ladies maintain unbeaten league form
Corby Town Ladies faced another incredibly tough away trip to Northampton Town, who were sat at the top of the league with 6 wins, 1 draw, 45 goals scored and only 5 conceded.
If that wasn’t enough to make the Steelwomen know how big a test it was going to be, the Cobblers were quick out of the blocks and had a number of early chances, however it would be Corby to open the scoring after a fine through ball from Stacey McConville
, Nicole Andrejczuk
slotted the ball past the advancing keeping, however with the covering defender about to make a goal-line clearance, Laura Dodwell
outmuscled her to prod Home the opener. Northampton hit back immediately however firstly curling a shot against the bar, before minutes later getting their equaliser when the ever dangerous Emma Dunmore lost her marker inside the box. The Cobblers continued to press the game however once again the Steelwomen would take the lead, with almost a carbon copy of the first goal, the same great ball from Stacey McConville
and the same great finish from Nicole Andrejczuk
however this time with no covering defender so Nicole’s shot found the net of its own accord. Goal keeper Shana Haynes
was kept exceptionally busy for the remainder of the half pulling off some absolute world class saves.
The second half would again see the Cobblers pushing and the Steelwomen having to defend resolutely. Northampton got the equaliser early in the half with a header at the far post, but despite their best efforts they were unable to add any more. Corby delivered the blow after a counter attack led to a through ball from Nicole Coull
, finding Laura Dodwell
who sped away from the defence before smashing her shot into the roof of the net. Northampton would continue to press for a third equaliser but the Corby defence held firm to record another unpredicted away victory.
Next week back at Steel Park, yet another big game in the form of Peterborough Utd
