Grammarians Strike Lucky
Corby loose in a tight encounter
Today saw Corby Town Girls U16s take on a brilliant grammarians side in what was a brilliant encounter between the two sides.
Corby started on the front foot squeezing Grammarians into their own half for the majority of the first half in which they scored early on. Macy Mulgrove was first to react on a loose ball which fell to her feet from a Beth Hughes goal. Corby continued to press Grammarians allowing them no time on the ball, Beth Hughes stepped up next who turned tightly away from a Grammarians player to score a brilliant goal from 25 yards out.
Then it was Gibbo's turn to score a well placed shot with the outside of her foot just outside the keepers area. Just before the break Grammarians hit one back which went in after hitting both posts.
Second half was a very different game, Corby still tried to press but slowly Grammarians began to take hold of the game, getting in behind the Corby defence on several occasions, the confidence from these chances begun to flow and Corby were pinned into their own half for the final 15 minutes. Grammarians then got the inevitable goal they were looking for from a quick break away. Corby didn't have the energy left in their legs and the luck was then all on OG's side, Grammarians managed to score two very late goals in the final few minutes aided by the wind.
Game ended 4-3 and although the Corby girls were clearly disheartened by the outcome of the game their manager JJ Sims was pleased with what he seen and on another day the score would have been very different.
